Impact of Climate Chang
Sri Lanka is a small island bounded by the Indian Ocean and the nearby landmass of the Asian continent, which determines our climate. Thus we are potentially vulnerable to Climate Change from the influence of the huge ocean and land mass. This research programme is looking at historical trends using baseline data. Questions addressed are, what is the vulnerability in terms of drought and floods particularly in the dry zone and what are the changes in the run-off patterns with changes in the climate and land-use.
We have contributed to the Second National Communication from Sri Lanka to the UNFCCC, on Adaptation and Vulnerability conducted by the Climate Change Secretariat of the Ministry of Environment in 2011.
